The Newton County Boys and Girls Power Lifting Teams delivered a strong performance at the recent Class 4A Region III Boys Powerlifting Meet, securing multiple top finishes and advancing toward South State competition.
Leading the way with individual weight class titles for the Cougars were Payton Hardy, Juan Brown, and Zack Garvin. Triston Pierce added to the success with a solid second-place finish, rounding out the qualifiers. Jaylin Wesley finished fifth in his division, and Garrett Sessions finished fifth, contributing to the successful showing by boys powerlifting team.
Hardy, Brown, Garvin, and Pierce will move on to compete at the South State Meet on March 7 at South Pike High School.
The Lady Cougars also had an outstanding showing at the Class 4A Region III Meet, with Ella Hammond, Kahlyn Clayton, Aubriella Upton, Sakiya Wesley, and Mackenzie Platt leading the way with individual weight class titles. Adding to the success were strong second-place finishes were Brynleigh Boatner, Avery Mangum, Anna Reese Bass, and Rhaley Easley.
Rounding out the qualifiers is Macey Adam with a third-place finish in her class.
Contributing to the overall success of the teams showing was Madison Wash with a fourth-place finish, and Ashlyn Denson with a fifth-place finish.
The ten Lady Cougar qualifiers will next compete at the South State Meet at South Pike High School on February 28.
