This week members of the Cougar Pride participated in the East Central Community College Honor Band Clinic. Musicians receiving First Chair Honor Band recognition include: Madison Strebeck, flute; Canyon Foreman, clarinet; Gavin Foreman, tenor saxophone; Miles McDonald, trumpet; Brandon Jones, trombone; Lorelai McKinion, baritone; Anna Boudreaux, tuba; and Ashlin Round, timpani. Stacy Sanders is the NCHS Band Director.
Fifth graders at Newton County Elementary School will transition to the Newton County Middle School campus a year earlier than in previous years. Members of the Class of 2032 will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the NCMS campus during their sixth-grade year. Additionally, during the 2025-26 school year, they will get a firsthand look at the extracurricular activities before tryouts in the spring of 2026 from left: Lennix Hurst, Jayden Hawkins, and Lane Stuart.

February marks National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, a nationwide awareness campaign celebrating the value, achievements, and impact of CTE programs. At the Newton County Career and Technical Center, students play a vital role in supporting both their school and community. Each Thursday, students from Mrs. Jackie Thompson’s Early Childhood program visit classrooms to provide onsite services, including peer tutoring, mentoring, and whole-group activities. First graders at Newton County Elementary School are 101 Days Smarter! Joseph Franklin, dressed as a Dalmatian, takes extra care on his morning work during his first few minutes at school on Thursday, January 23rd. Students were challenged to find 101 “spots” during the day in math and in reading.
