CHOCTAW, Miss. –– On Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, Tribal Chief Phyliss J. Anderson presented keys to Department of Public Safety Director Juston Frazier and officers of the Choctaw Police Department for new department vehicles. Fiscal Year 2018 Tribal Revenue funds were used to purchase the nine Dodge Chargers and two Chevrolet Tahoes. All vehicles are pursuit vehicles to be used by Choctaw police officers, with the two Tahoes equipped for the K-9 officers.
Another set of vehicles and technology equipment will be purchased in 2019 with Community Oriented Police (COPS) grant funding. An announcement will be made soon with more details.
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, under the leadership of Tribal Chief Phyliss J. Anderson, has an enrolled membership of more than 11,000 people and is the only federally recognized tribe in the State of Mississippi. Headquartered in Choctaw, Miss., the Tribe has emerged as a leader in economic development. The tribe provides a range of governmental services including schools, a hospital, medical clinics, police and fire protection, courts, and a center for the elderly, among many others. Phyliss J. Anderson serves as the first female Chief in Mississippi Choctaw history.
