The Newton Municipal School District recently announced that they will be offering free, quality meals to area children ages 18 years and under during the month of June as part of the Summer Food Service Program.
The district will be serving two nutritious meals a day, beginning on June 3 at the Newton Elementary School Cafeteria. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Adults that accompany children may eat meals, as well, at a cost of $3 for breakfast and $5 for lunch. The Summer School Food Service program will end on June 27. Meals will be provided at a first come, first serve basis.
Kanesha Sumling, Child Nutrition Director at the Newton Municipal School District, said the goal of the program is the make sure that area children are getting good meals.
“We want to feed nutritious meals, free of charge, to students who are either in school under an academic program, or if they’re just in the neighborhood and not in school,” said Sumling. “They are all welcome to come and get a free meal at the Newton Elementary School Cafeteria.”
