The Newton Police Department is investigating an early-morning shooting that occurred at the 100 block of Pine Street last week, where one person was shot in the leg.
According to Major McKenzie Patrick, who’s heading the investigation, officers received a call at 12:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26. Once they arrived at the crime scene, officers found multiple shell casings but no victims. The police department was later informed that a private vehicle transported a victim from the scene to a local hospital for medical treatment on a non-life-threatening leg wound.
Patrick said that a person of interest has been identified, but no arrest has been made at the time. The case is under active investigation and further information will be given when available.
