A traffic stop conducted by the Newton Police Department on the evening of May 3 resulted in the seizure of drugs, firearms, and cash from a vehicle.
The stop involved a gray Kia Optima with a Texas license plate, which was pulled over around 9:00 P.M., due to the smell of marijuana. During the search of the vehicle, narcotics investigator Michael Williams found approximately two to three pounds of marijuana, two firearms, and a significant amount of cash.
The driver of the Kia Optima was arrested on several state-controlled substance violations. The identity of the driver has not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
The Newton Police Department is evaluating the need for additional charges or arrests related to this incident. Further information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
