The Mississippi High School Activities Association will finally kick off the 2020 football season this week.

Four of the six schools in the Newton County Appeal’s coverage area will kick off the season this week; with the exception of Newton, who is open after losing North Forrest.

Newton jamboree gets cancelled

The Newton Tigers didn’t get to play this past Friday in a scrimmage with Raleigh.

“It was out of my hands,” Newton coach Zach Grady said. “We ended up canceling because of COVID. I hate that we didn’t get to play because we won’t get to play this week and won’t play until Sept. 11 after North Forrest backed out on us.”
