ORDINANCE 358
AN ORDINANCE FIXING
RATES FOR COLLECTION
OF GARBAGE WITHIN
THE CITY OF UNION, MISSISSIPPI
WHEREAS, the amount of garbage collected within the City of Union, Mississippi, and the cost thereof has risen sharply within the last few years; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Union does not have funds sufficient to defray cost without
increasing the rate of charge for the collection of garbage.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF UNION, MISSISSIPPI, as follows:
SECTION 1: That there be and there is hereby established a rate of charge for the
collection of garbage and waste from all residences and businesses on a residence located within the City of Union or located on property owned by the City of Union and the monthly rate of charge be increased to $20.00 per customer.
SECTION 2: The rate of charge specified in Section 1 hereof shall be shown on the
water bill for each customer and paid as required therein. In the even said rate of charge of garbage collection services for any customer become delinquent more than thirty (30) days, the City of Union shall cease collecting each such customer’s garbage until all rates of charges then due are paid.
SECTION 3: The rates of charges herein provided shall be collected from the owner,
occupant, or user of the premises with said municipality from and after the effective date of this ordinance.
SECTION 4: All former ordinances or parts thereof conflicting or inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5: That this ordinance shall take effect and be in effect as of April 1, 2023.
The foregoing ordinance having been considered section by section and then as a whole, it was put to a vote and the vote of the Aldermen was as follows:
Alderman Robert Blount voted Aye
Alderman Harvey Hickmon voted Aye
Alderman Paul Lowery voted Aye
Alderman Billy McCune voted Aye
Alderman Ricky Sistrunk voted Aye
It being determined that the ordinance received the affirmative vote of all the aldermen present, it was declared passed and adopted on this the 1st day of March, 2023.
