Services for Mr. Jack Hamil were held at 11 am, Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery. Bro. William Savell and Bro. Rusty Walton officiated.
Visitation was held one hour prior to services on Thursday at Milling Funeral Home of Union.
Jack Bailey Hamil, age 88, departed his earthly life on December 24, 2023. He was born February 2, 1935 in the Salem Community of Leake County. Jack was the last surviving member in a family of nine brothers and one sister.
In December 1945, he and his family moved to a farm in the Stratton Community, where Jack lived in the same home for 78 years. After his dad’s death in 1964, he cared for his mother for the next 27 years until her death.
Following graduation from Stratton High School, Jack worked in woodworking plants at Cleveland Industries in Union and later at Kroehler Industries in Meridian, until it closed and Jack began painting houses until his retirement. He was a member of the Mississippi Air National Guard for 10 years.
He will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by one sister in law and caregiver, Nellie Harrison Hamil and twenty nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Ruth Hamil; nine brothers: Guy, Ray, Eugene, Bobby, Dillard, Billy, Ralph, James and Kenneth and one sister, Amelia Knight.
Friends and family served as pallbearers.
Milling Funeral Home of Union is in charge of the arrangements.
