Funeral services for Waddie Thomas "Skipper" Weir, Jr., were held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home-North Chapel. Interment followed in Garlandville Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Bro. Joe Garvin officiated.
A Newton native, Mr. Weir was born Monday, January 27, 1947 and was a graduate of Newton High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy, and served during the Vietnam War. After returning home from his military service, he began his work career, at ESCO Corp., at Newton for fourteen years before moving to Florida to work for Walt Disney World for twenty five years. He spent his retirement years in his native Mississippi, caring for his family and his dogs. He will be missed. Mr. Weir passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at his residence at the age of 75.
He was preceded in death by his father, Waddie Thomas Weir, Sr. and his mother, Pauline Maslen Weir.
Survivors include his wife, Terri L. Cobb Weir of Newton; sons, Richard T. Weir (Tabitha) of Union, and Justin T. Weir (Crystal) of Kissimmee, FL; daughter, Wanda K. Weir of Laurel; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Levi Charles Weir, David Allen Weir and Larkin Weir.
Pallbearers were Richard Weir, Justin Weir, Steven Weir, Colby Edgar, Clayton Kimberlin, and Tyler Townsend.
Honorary pallbearers were Chris Elmore and Louis P. Foley, Sr.
Visitation was on Thursday two hours prior to the services at the funeral home.
Newton County Funeral Home, North Chapel, 9998 Hwy. 15 N., Newton, served the Weir family.
