Amos Ross Bounds, 87, of Newton, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at his residence in Newton. He was born Monday, Oct. 20, 1930, in Newton.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6 at Newton County Funeral South. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton. The Rev. Brian Rushing will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bounds was retired from the U. S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Vietnam War and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a longtime owner of the Quik Sak-Um Convenience Store in Newton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bounds; two sisters, Marice Brand and Loraine Byrd; and two brothers, Bill and Leon Bounds,
Survivors include his wife, Edna Earle Bounds of Newton, one daughter, Phyllis (Roy) Watson, of Rolling Fork; three sons, Jeffery (Jo Beth) Bounds, of Newton, Joe (Karen) Bounds, of Lawrence, and Jon (Melynda) Bounds, of Old Hickory, Tenn.; two sisters, Louise Lucas and Betty Thames, and two brothers, Giles and Rodney Bounds.
Pallbearers will be Bo Bounds, Kevin Bounds, Kirk Thames, Jack Thames, Ted Whittle and Van Lucas.
