Betty M. McNair, 84, died July 8, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Born in Decatur on Sept. 28, 1932, Mrs. McNair was a Newton County native who had lived in Jackson for 37 years before moving to Ridgeland. She graduated from Stratton High School in Union and East Central Community College in Decatur. After graduating from college, she worked as a secretary to the County Agent in Decatur.
She spent the majority of her life serving her husband and children as a homemaker. Betty was a godly woman with such a servant’s heart who loved her family, friends and church. She seldom missed her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s ball games and activities. Her passion was making bread to share with her friends and family. She enjoyed fellowship with her sewing group and Sunday School Class. She served her Lord faithfully for many years at Broadmoor Baptist Church.
Nanny, as she was called, was a friend to many and cherished the many friends who touched her life over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Joe and Cora Payne McMullan; five brothers, Jack, James, Billy, Fred and Paul McMullan; two sisters, Helen Cooper and Margie Welch; and a son, Randy McNair.
She is survived by her brother, Raymond McMullan, his wife, Lois and their children, Debbie Wright and her husband, Mike, Barry McNair and his wife, Melody, and Tim McNair and his wife, Melodi; seven grandchildren, Leigh Anne Fancher and her husband Matthew, Amy Wright, Stephen Wright and his wife, Holly, Kristen McNair, Emily McNair, Madi McNair and Banks McNair; three great-grandchildren, Lora Leigh Fancher, Allie Claire Fancher and James Matthew Fancher II.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at 11 am. Burial will take place in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
