Christine Ezelle Bates, 94, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at New Albany Health and Rehab in New Albany. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Irvin and Mr. Bill Renobich officiating. A graveside service was held at County Line Cemetery in Neshoba County at 4 p.m. on the same day. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Waller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born in Lauderdale County to the late Jessie Madison and Hattie Thomas Ezelle, Mrs. Bates was retired from East Mississippi State Hospital in Meridian. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Mrs. Bates was a wonderful Christian woman and participated in WMU and the Homemakers Club.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Bates; two sons, Allen Bates and Wayne Bates; and three grandsons, Billy Bates, Chris Bates and Jim Hunter Bates.
Survivors include her son, Tommy Bates and his wife, Marijon of Etta; a grandson, Johnny Bates and his wife, Linda of Union; a great-grandson, Dustin Hunter Bates and his wife, Chelsie of Union; and great-great grandson, Hunter Kayse Bates Union.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Bates’ memory may be made to Philadelphia Baptist Church, 456 County Road 255, Etta, Mississippi 38627.
