Services for Dr. Richard Calvin Ethridge were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Clarke-Venable Baptist Church with burial in the Decatur City Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Vincent was in charge of the service with Dr. Billy Williams in charge of the music.
Visitation was held 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Clarke-Venable Baptist Church.
On Aug. 12, 1935, in the wee hours of the morning, a son was born to Dave Leon and Nettie Vera Ethridge. Dr. McDonald, a local M.D., arrived to find the little over achiever had made his appearance earlier, weighing 13 pounds and with a loud protest.
After his early education in Meridian, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi College in Clinton and a master’s degree and ph. degree from Mississippi State University. His teaching career spanned 37 years at ECCC. During this time, Richard was a Baptist pastor and interim pastor at many churches in Mississippi. He also served on the MS. Baptist Historical Society for 12 years.
Dr. Ethridge passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the age of 82.
He leaves his wife of 66 years, Virginia Marble Ethridge; three daughters, Marietta Lane, Janet Lynn and Dr. Katherine Ethridge Scott (Jeff); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Graham Clarke, Chris Clark, Chris Harris, John Walker, Richard Stamper and John Mark Vincent
Milling Funeral Home of Union is in charge of the arrangements.
