It is with great sadness that the family of Dwayne Carmichael announces his passing away after a battle with cancer on Nov. 6, 2017, at the age of 62.
A longtime resident of Newton, Dwayne attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, but decided instead to pursue a career with the Halliburton Service Company, an offshore drilling company.
In September 1989, Dwayne became a member of the Newton Volunteer Fire Department. He found great pleasure in helping his fellow man during emergency situations and times of hardship. He retired from the fire department in February 2008.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his father, the Rev. H.O. Carmichael.
He is survived by his mother, Lessie Carmichael; a sister, Valeda Carmichael; a brother Henry Carmichael (Robbie Ann); his wife of 34 years, Lee (nee Simmons); twodaughters, Kate Farmer (Jamey), Bess Carmichael; and three grandsons, Lake Carmichael, Charlie Carmichael and Calhoun Farmer.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at Newton County Funeral Home-North on Thursday, Nov. 9. A celebration of Dwayne’s life will follow immediately after the visitation with the Revs. Wayne Sellers and Dan Henry officiating.
Graveside services will follow at the Mississippi State Veterans Cemetery in Hickory with the Rev. David Jay officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.
