Mr. Edward Harmon Crosby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Crosby on Jan. 13, 1939 in Newton County, MS. He lost his long, fierce battle to cancer on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Bedford Care Nursing Home in Newton, MS. Visitation was held 5-8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, and Sunday July 28, 2019 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Funeral Services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at First Baptist Church of Lake, MS with burial following at Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Brother Randall Creel, Brother Ken McLemore and Brother Jess Dilley officiated with Brother Chris Spence as soloist.
Harmon was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He loved life and never met a stranger. He never had a “bad” day and always saw the good in everyone he came in contact with. He loved the Lord and had a genuine love for his family, friends, church and community. He was a self-employed poultry farmer for 35 years. He served his church faithfully as Sunday school teacher and a deacon. He was also a member of the Lake- Lawrence Lions Club. Over his lifetime, he earned the title of “Master Story Teller” and never missed an opportunity to tell a story or a joke. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Eugene Crosby; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Belle (Phillips) Crosby; brother, Mason (Dillard) Crosby; and brothers in law, Herman Lewis Gibbs and Bobby Leach.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Mitchell Crosby; two sons, Kevin Crosby of and Ken ( Bethany) Crosby, both of Lake; granddaughter, McKenzie Crosby of Lake; grandson, Chris ( Paige ) Spence of Lake; brother, Robert Lewis Crosby ( Faye) of Lake; sister, Thelma Jean Leach of Lake; sister, Patsy ( Bill) McDonald of Ludlow, MS; sister in law, Pauline Crosby of Lake; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Terry Crosby, Keith Gibbs, Jeff Mitchell, John Mitchell, Joey Mitchell, Davis Ross Mitchell, Eddie Stokes, Michael Wooten, Howard Mitchell, James Mitchell, Jason Mitchell, Mark Crosby and Justin Usry. Honorary Pallbearers were First Baptist Church Deacons. The family deeply appreciates the kindness shown to Harmon and his family by Bedford Care Center staff and Heartfelt Hospice during his battle with cancer. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Lake building fund. One of Harmon’s favorite quotes was “I’m doing good for an old man with a lot of miles.” He has taken his last mile on this old Earth into Heaven, and he is doing great!
