A Celebration of Life for Helen Beatrice Freeman will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at Sylvarena Baptist Church in Wesson, Miss.
Helen Beatrice Freeman, born April 21, 1929, passed away June 15 in Decatur, Miss. In her 89 years, she lived in Mississippi, Washington, D.C., California, Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Indiana, but no matter where she was, the most important thing was to be with her family.
Education and a continuing love for learning were touchstones in her life, as she graduated from the Mississippi School for the Deaf (1946), Gallaudet University (1952), received a master’s degree from East Central University of Oklahoma (1985) and concluded a long career as a teacher and librarian when she retired from the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in 1989. Helen’s life revolved around her love for her family and her strong Christian faith.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James (Jim) and Clara Jackson; her husband, Dr. Jerome W. Freeman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin (Buddy) and Pauline Jackson and William (Billy) and Jeanette Jackson; and sister and brother-in-law, Opal (Jackson) and George Thompson.
She is survived by sons, Jerome W. (Jerry) and Deborah Freeman and Michael and Kelly B. Freeman; grandchildren and spouses, Joseph and Courtney Freeman, Sarah Freeman, Jennifer (Jenn) and Eamon Murphy and Robert (Bob) and Dr. Guo Freeman; and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Savanna, Bailee, and Riley Freeman. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends loved her dearly.
