Memorial services for Mr. Henry Grady Langley Jr. will be held in Starkville at Montgomery Gardens at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 22. Another service will be held later in Union for those that are unable to travel to Starkville.
Buddy was born on Aug. 31, 1926, and passed into the presence of His Savior on June 15, 2017, at the age of 90. Born and reared in Louisville, he was educated in the Louisville school system and was known for his athletic abilities on the football field. After graduation from high school he served in the US. Navy during WWII, where he was stationed in numerous places including the Philippines.
He was married to Rosemary Greer, his loving wife of 68 years. They moved to Union where he began his career in the business world with his father in the creamery business. Buddy was an entrepreneur of sorts. He was in the wholesale chicken and milk business, co-owned and operated a service station and opened several different restaurants in town. He was affectionately known as “the chicken man” and to his family he was known as the “original chicken strip master.”
Buddy was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a lifetime member and loved his church family. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending Mississippi State games and keeping up with his Bulldogs. He spent many hours playing golf with friends at the Union Golf Course. He also took great care in making his yard one of the town’s showcase yards. He and Rosemary enjoyed hosting events at their house especially at Christmas time. They both cared for others and tried their best to serve them.
Buddy and Rosemary had one daughter, Susan Langley Simmons whom he loved very much. Nothing made him happier than spending time with family which included two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. God blessed Buddy with many years to serve his family and his many friends in Union. He was a special man and we will miss him.
His survivors include his wife, Rosemary Langley; a daughter, Susan Simmons and her husband Butch; two grandchildren, Josh Simmons and his wife, Amanda, and Hannah Stewart and her husband, Wade; five great grandchildren, Meredith and Connor Simmons and Grady, Avery and Anderson Stewart and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Grady Langley Sr. and Marion Davis Langley; and his two sisters, Marjorie Bell and Rush Marshall.
