Services for Mr. Howard Doyle McGee were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial in the Union City Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Mayes, Dr. Jon Martin and Jay Cassel officiated.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at Milling Funeral Home of Union.
Mr. McGee, 89, of Union died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 23, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Attala County.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Union.
Survivors include his wife of 56 and a half years, Dorothy C. McGee of Union; a son, Jeff McGee and his wife, Nicole, of Union; two daughters,
Ann Mayes and her husband, Steve, of Jacksonville, Ala., Amy Cassel and her husband, Merrill, of Union; six grandchildren, Jay Cassel and his wife, Amanda, of Union, Beth Mayes of Jacksonville, Ala., Lauren Cassel and friend, Brody Stokes, of Columbus, Josh McGee of Union, Mallory McGee of Union and Timothy Mayes of Jacksonville, Ala.; a great-grandson, Gentry Cassel of Union; two step-grandchildren, Nicholas Thomas of Southaven and Natalie Thomas of Union; two sisters, Betty Trest of Meridian and Rachel Phillips and her husband, Pruitt, of Cookeville, Tenn.
He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. McGee was preceded in death by his parents, M.G. and Carrie McGee; a brother, Bill McGee; a sister, Mary McGee; and a grandson, Ben Mayes.
Pallbearers were Jay Cassel, Timothy Mayes, Josh McGee, Brody Stokes, Daniel Marshall, Joey Ezell, Sam Burks and Randy Vance.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Milling Funeral Home of Union was in charge of the arrangements.
