Jennie Lee Holladay Brady, 88, passed away Oct. 15, 2017, in Metairie, La. Born in Newton on June 10, 1929, to the late William Byron Holladay and Lydia Bounds Holladay, she completed public school in Newton and attended Clarke Memorial College. In 1949, she married James Foster Brady of Montrose. They lived in Meridian, where they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until his death in 1999.
After raising two children, she returned to the workforce as a teaching assistant in the Meridian public school system. A lifelong lover of music, Jennie enjoyed singing gospel music with her sisters and was active in State Boulevard Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Jennie was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and counted cross stitch.
She is survived by her children, James Michael Brady of St. Augustine, Fla., and his wife Suzanne, Brenda Gail Jenkins of Metairie, La.; three grandchildren, Meredith Snowden and her husband Matt, Carlton Brady and his wife, Rachel, and Brady Jenkins and his wife, Mandy; two sisters, Mildred Valentine and Bobbie Miller; a brother-in-law, A.B. Amis and sister-in-law Agnes Holladay; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brothers; Wilbur Holladay and Curtis Holladay; a sister, Francis Amis; a sister-in-law Kitty Holladay; and brother-in-law Robert Miller.
Friends and family are invited to attend a service that will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at the Newton County Funeral Home, 9998 Hwy 15 N., Newton. She will be interred with her beloved husband, James.
