JoAnn Mitchell Smith, 78, passed away on March 26, 2018 at her home.
JoAnn was born in Conehatta, to Roger and Oberia Mitchell. JoAnn was married to Wharton P. Smith Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., for over 57 years.
She is survived by her children, Wharton P. Smith III (Annette), Teresa Smith Short, Roger W. Smith (Suzy) and Joseph D. Smith (Loretta); 11 grandchildren, Sarah Smith, Wharton Paul Smith IV (Leea), Travis Smith (Kelly), Robert Short, Anders Short, Erika Smith Boyle (William), Tyson Smith (Krista), Sami Smith, Matthew Smith, Nena Smith, and Jessie Smith; great-grandsons, Benjamin Gonzalez and Colt Smith; one sister, Barbara Smith; and one brother, Herbert Mitchell (Sue).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Oberia Mitchell; and her husband, Wharton P. Smith, Jr. (Smitty).
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Newton County Funeral Home- North. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Bro William Savell officiating. Burial will follow at Conehatta United Methodist Church Cemetery in Conehatta, Mississippi.
