Funeral services for Mr. Larry M. Loper will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Newton County Funeral Home South with Bro. Lin Chesney officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Bluff Baptist Church with Newton County Funeral Home South in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Loper, 69, of Newton, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Anderson Regional Medical Center of Meridian.
Mr. Loper retired after 40 years as a lineman with Mississippi Power Company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was affectionately known as “Papa” by his nine grandchildren, who he loved dearly. “Powerman” was always known to be the same person in all situations, no matter who he was around. With his quick wit and sense of humor, to know him was to love him. He was a father figure and role model to many kids, co-workers and family.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Loper; four children, Jennifer Bailey (Al), Bubba Loper, Heather Bounds (Joe), Laurie McGehee;a step-daughter, Shannon Wyatt (Wade); two grandchildren, Gavin and Griffin Bailey; Gunnar and Zander Bounds; Garrett Loper; Danielle, Jesse and Cierra McGehee; and Braxton Wyatt; two sisters, Linda Cooksey (Ottis), Lisa Gordon (Walter); a brother, Randy Loper (Beverly); a sister-in-law, Judy Griffin; a brother in law, Mike Boone; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The “Dog Whisperer” is also survived by his 19 hunting hounds.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Loper; his parents Robert and Carlean Loper; and a sister Robbie Boone.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Clanton, Johnny Collins, Stevie Lynn Smith, Rayphord Bounds, Jimmy McDowell and Larry Gressett. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Mississippi Power Company.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Foundation in lieu of flowers.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Friday, June 1 at Newton County Funeral Home-South.
