Services for Lee Ann Scoggin were held at noon Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at First Baptist Church Newton, with burial in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Brian Rushing, Bro. Robbie Robertson and Bro. Lin Chesney officiated.
Visitation was held 10 a.m. to noon Friday at First Baptist Church of Newton.
Lee Ann Hollingsworth Scoggin, 68, of Newton was born Sept. 19, 1950 and died peacefully on Dec. 4, 2018 in her home after a 5-month-and-4-day battle with lung cancer.
She was the fourth child of six children born to Marshall and Edna Ruth Puckett Hollingsworth in the Pine Bluff community. She was preceded in death by both her mother and father; a younger infant brother, Clarence, and an older sister, Marsha Ruth Hedrick (Ed).
She is survived by husband, Charles Scoggin; two older brothers, Raymond Hollingsworth (Pat) and Kenneth Hollingsworth (Peggy); and a younger sister, Bettye Joyce Purvis (R.T.).
Lee Ann was the salutatorian of her graduating class of 1968 at Decatur High School. She graduated with honors from East Central Junior College in 1970, and later graduated cum laude from Mississippi State Branch in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.
Charles and Lee Ann were married March 4, 1972, divorced in June 1976 and remarried Dec. 31, 1976. She was employed for 34 ½ years as the Administrative Assistant to the President of East Central Community College serving under three presidents: Dr. Charles Wright, Dr. Eddie Smith and Dr. Phil Sutphin. She retired from East Central Community College in 2006.
Pallbearers include Chris Hollingsworth, Clay Hollingsworth, John Fisher, Jacob Robertson, Matt Purvis, Trey Clardy and Chris Clardy.
Honorary Pallbearers include Rejoice In Friendship Sunday School Class, Janice and Jody Bryant, Carole Germany, Katrina McCalphia, Lynda Truesdale, David Norman, Lynn Wagner, Leanne McGee, Mark McGee, Jill Wagner and Joe Pugh.
Milling Funeral Home of Union was in charge of the arrangements.
