Services for Mavis Herrington will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017,
at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Neshoba County with the Revs. Rusty Walton and Lin Chesney officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Herrington, 89, of the House Community, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Neshoba County, native of the Bethsaida Community and
longtime resident of the House Community. She played on state championship basketball
teams for House High School. She formerly worked for Wells-Lamont, Decatur Shirt Factory,
Union High School cafeteria and Slenderizer in Philadelphia. Mrs. Herrington was a lifetime
member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, training union and
Bible school. She and her husband served as church custodians for numerous years. She was a
wonderful cook specializing in sourdough breads.
Survivors include two sons, Jerrell (Linda) Herrington of House, Glenn (Glenda) Herrington
of House; three grandchildren, Amy (Toby) Palmer, Vince (Laura) Herrington and Eric Herrington;
seven great-grandchildren, Trace, John Thomas, Zachary and Jacob Palmer, Judd Young, Braden and
Harper Rae Herrington; a brother, Raymond (Kay) Edwards of Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews
and their families.
Mrs. Herrington was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Chester Herrington; her parents,
Robert Lee and Clara Spence Edwards; and several sisters and brothers.
Pallbearers will be Eric Herrington, Vince Herrington, Trace Palmer, John Thomas Palmer, Zachary Palmer,
and Jacob Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Judd Young, Braden Herrington and Toby Palmer.
