Mr. Melvin Hollingsworth, 68, passed away on Oct. 20, at the University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Mr. Melvin was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He served in the United States Army in which he earned a Purple Heart Medal during the Vietnam War. He was a brick layer for 43 years. He enjoyed farming, gardening, singing, and playing his guitar. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Melvin was a dedicated member of Pine Grove Church of God.
He is survived by loving wife of 44 years Betty Dianne Hollingsworth; sons, Bradley Hollingsworth (Amy) and Barry Hollingsworth (Kelly); grandchildren, Brandon Hollingsworth (Courtney), Logan Hollingsworth, Allyson Hollingsworth, Ashley Hollingsworth and Audrey Hollingsworth; sisters, Sally Green (Billy), Ina Mazingo (Larry) and Jackie Everett (Waddell); brothers, Robert Hollingsworth (Janice), Jerry Hollingsworth and Mack Hollingsworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Chester and Inez Hollingsworth and brother, Hubert Hollingsworth.
Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 22 from 5-8 p.m. at Newton County Funeral Home- North.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Newton County Funeral Home-North. Burial followed at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Williams officiating.
Pallbearers were Bradley Hollingsworth, Barry Hollingsworth, Brandon Hollingsworth, Logan Hollingsworth, David Hollingsworth, Kevin Mayes, Douglas Mayes and Luke Williams.
