Ola Jean Parker, 87, of Lawrence, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at Rush Hospital in Meridian. She was born Thursday, Jan. 9, 1930, in Newton County.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 at Newton County Funeral Home - South in Newton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Newton County Funeral Home –South. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawrence. Bros. Jamie Leach, Justin K. Chaney and Tommy Tanner will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Parker was a lifelong resident of Newton County. She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for more than 67 years. Everyone knew her as cashier at Piggly Wiggly grocery store where she retired in 2005.
Ola Jean was well loved and appreciated by her family. She spent her best years caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was so blessed to have a great-great-granddaughter and a god-granddaughter. Most recently, she was thrilled to spend time with her newest great-grandson, Vinny. Even in her daily pain, the little ones brought her so much joy. Precious times with family and friends will never be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Crenshaw and Mary Ola Crenshaw; her husband, Gene Parker; a son, Bennie Joe Parker; a grandson, Chad M. Parker; a great grandson, Kyle Parker; and six siblings, T.O. Crenshaw, Ted Crenshaw, Billy Crenshaw, Elvie C. Todd, Leactrice C. Burrows and Edna C. Bright.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann Parker Blackburn (James R.); four grandchildren, Keith E. Parker, Robin B. Pennington (Joedy), Richard Parker Blackburn, Vince Spinosa-Parker (Samantha); 10 great-grandchildren, Kirk Parker, Kelly Parker, Chyann Parker, Hailey Williams, Grace Pennington, Kayla Rundles (Jonathan), Nick Pennington, Lucille Spinosa-Parker, Gabriel Kakuske, Vinny Spinosa-Parker; a great-great grandchild, Abigail Holifield and god-child, Tyonah Ann Larkin.
Pallbearers will be Hubert Richardson, Ricky May, Randy Craspe, Warren Robinson, Bryan Bobbitt, Dwight Jacobs and Mike Butler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
