Patsy Iona Futch May, 77, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 28, 2017, at Hilltop Manor Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jakie and Jewel Futch of Conehatta.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Buddy May; her siblings, Lozelle Pace and Peggy Germany (her identical twin); her children Suzanne Weaver and her husband, Chris Weaver, and Robert May and his wife, Patricia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Patsy married her high school sweetheart on Aug. 16, 1958. After living in Louisiana, Nebraska and Alabama, the couple settled in Newton and started a family. They moved to Conehatta and later Leland before returning to Decatur in retirement. Patsy worked at various local banks, was active in church, active in her children’s activities, and maintained a warm and loving household. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and particularly loved roses.
She touched our lives in a very special way and will be deeply missed. After struggling with health issues throughout her life, she is now in a better place and free of pain and suffering. In Revelation 21:4 we are told: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” In 1 Thessalonians 4:17 we are told: “Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.”
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Hilltop Manor Nursing Home and of Sta-Home Hospice for the loving care that was provided to Patsy.
There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at Clarke Venerable Baptist Church in Decatur.
A memorial donation may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers (alz.org).
