Services for Mrs. Sue L. Addy were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17 at First Baptist Church of Union with the Rev. David Addy, Dr. Jon Martin, and the Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Burial followed at Union City Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home of Union was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Addy, 72, of Union, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Sue was a graduate of Mississippi College with a degree in education which she used to teach public school in Union for 19 years. She also helped run the family business, Marshall Lewis Department Store, alongside her husband for 20 years.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Union where she was a Sunday school teacher, children’s church coordinator and website coordinator.
She was also heavily involved with her community Present Day Club, was in MFWC on the state level, WMU director, nursing home ministries coordinator, and wrote a column in the Newton County Appeal for four years.
She fought her cancer battle bravely for two and a half years and was known to bring joy and happiness to everyone she met, no matter the circumstances.
She will be most remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Her survivors include her son, David Addy and his wife Lisa; two grandchildren Grace and Jonathan Addy; a sister Nancy Franklin and her husband, John; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Greene and Jenny Ruth Roberts Lewis; her beloved husband of 44 years, Larry Addy; twin sons, Joseph Larry and Jonathan Lewis Addy; a grandson Heath Morris Addy; and a brother James Marshall Lewis.
Pallbearers included Aiden Addy, Elias Addy, Mark Addy, Rick Addy, Terry Addy, Cross Franklin, Jay Franklin and Drew Wolverton.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 16 and again from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Stephens Funeral Home of Union.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Haiti’s Eden, 1205 Smokerise Trail, Warrior, AL 35180 and Gertrude C. Ford Hope Lodge 615 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216.
