Ms. Richardson, 58, of Union died Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at James T. Champion Nursing Home of Meridian.
Amy, daughter of Ray and Coralyn Richardson, born in between Tiny and Nona and older sisters Rosalie and Leisa and little brother, Rich. Miss Coralyn never hesitated in treating Amy differently than her other children, which made her “scrappy” from the start. Out of her siblings with bright blonde hair, Amy was the only one with big blue eyes and a strawberry red-head. She was the head of the pack every summer at the community pool where she swam like a fish, sailed down the slide and jumped off the diving board with the best of them.
As the siblings went off to school, Coralyn and Ray wanted Amy to have structure. At age 8, Amy attended Ellisville State School. She was home for every summer, and a month between every Thanksgiving and Christmas. There was never a doubt Amy was beloved by her family clan, neighbors, church family and community. Amy’s large, extended family, which included many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandmothers gave opportunity for all to show her special attentions. She especially loved getting creative “care packages” from cousins John and Andy Davis. Sibling friends were Amy’s friends as well.
While at Ellisville, Amy was a many time gold medal winner for swimming during Special Olympics. Amy also attended several football games at the University of Southern Mississippi. After, Coralyn died Amy went to live at Meridian Group Home where she entertained, worked and became a beloved family member for 30 years (1993-2023). Amy worked at MIDD (Mississippi Industry for Developmentally Disabled) where she was a line worker. She was so proud to receive her 25 year achievement pin in March of 2022. Although a dedicated employee, Amy was not happy about the early report time. There were 2 daily vans and during her 25 year tenure, Amy never made the “early bus”. No matter at work or at home, Amy loved music and dancing. She especially enjoyed listening to Elvis and Michael Jackson music and was known for her “special” dance moves.
Amy traveled extensively during her younger years and enjoyed going to Texas every summer. Amy loved going out to eat, attending the Texas State Fair, visiting with friends, family and just being on the go.
In her later years, as Amy’s health declined, she was moved in April of 2023 to The Pines Nursing Home in Meridian, MS. She was frequently visited by the Group Home staff and family members. As her “2nd family”, the Group Home staff loved Amy unconditionally. Amy’s family is extremely grateful for the love and care shown to her over half her life during her time there. No matter who she met or where she went, she impacted everyone who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her sisters Rosalie Blount and Joe, Leisa Richardson, Angie “Tiny” Rash and husband Kevin, Nona Griffin and husband Stacey.
She was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
