Funeral services for Benny Lamar Humphreys were held at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from the Newton County Funeral Home – North Chapel. Bro. Gil Powell officiated. The eulogy was given by Mrs. Pam Arthur. Burial followed in the Lawrence Cemetery under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home.
Mr. Humphreys age 83, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023 at his residence. He was a native of Newton County, attended Lawrence School and graduated from Newton High School. He served in the United States Air Force and worked for the railroad for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Order. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking, as well as visiting with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Cochran Humphreys; one daughter, Connie Humphreys Harris; his parents, James L. "Sonny Boy" and Melba Humphreys.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Winstead Humphreys of Little Rock; two daughters, Vicki Nelson (Joel) of Hickory and Pam Arthur (Ronald) of Union; two grandsons, Judd Easom (Christy) and Kurt Nelson (Emily); two granddaughters, Melanie Thomas (Brandon) and Kayleigh Vick (Hunter); seven great grandchildren, Samantha Easom, Chip Nelson, Frannie Nelson, Charlie Nelson, Ruthie Nelson, Hallie Thomas and Baylor Vick; three brothers, Thomas Humphreys (Sylvia) of Newton, Jimmy Dale Humphreys (Voncille) of Moselle and Jerry Humphreys (Betty Jo) of Lawrence; two sisters, Mary Everett of Decatur and Barbara Haralson of Conehatta and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were John Everett, Jim Humphreys, Chris Cochran, Bobby Young, Dr. Scott Massingill, and Rex Magee.
Honorary pallbearer was Parker Emmons.
Visitation was Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
