Bonnie Ruth Russell died peacefully June 26, 2025. She was born December 25, 1934 to Newton and Jenny Herd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Russell; her sister, Nell Wells; and her brother, Thomas Herd. Survivors include two children, daughter, Valerie (Tony) Luckie; son, Dalton (Kim) Russell; three grandchildren, Daniel Russell, Nick Luckie and Allie Salmons; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Luckie and Cole Salmons.
Bonnie graduated from Stratton High School. In 1951 she married Douglas Russell. Bonnie loved life and was focused on her family. When her daughter was born she traveled with her husband to Virginia while stationed there with the army. A few years later her son was born. Through the years she was employed by Boyston Shirt Co. and managed the Value Mart, but her happiest employment came when she opened her own fabric store and sewed for the public. She also enjoyed her work with the Newton County Library and was an avid reader. She was very creative and loved quilt making and was a member of the local quilting club. Her favorite pastime, when younger, was square-dancing during which time she made all her outfits. She loved cooking, caring for her flowers, being a good friend and neighbor. Bonnie loved Jesus and had a strong faith. She was active in church and supported the Womens Missionary Society. Her faith enabled her to overcome and endure various health problems over the years and sustained her until the end.
Services were held at Milling Funeral Home, Union, MS and burial at Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Union, MS.
