Services for Mr. Clarence "Gene" Lee will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Beulah Baptist Church.
Bro. Gary Rivers, Bro. Byron Howell, and Bro. Tod Harrison will officiate. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2024, 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Milling Funeral Home in Union. Mr. Lee, age 88, of Little Rock, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in his home at Little Rock.
Survivors include two sons, Randall E. Lee (Michelle) of Union and Richard D. Lee (Lisa) of Collinsville; one daughter, Rebecca Harrison (Mike) of Union; nine grandchildren, Brooke Gardner (Ricky), Lana Lee, Brandie Lee, Alexander Lee (Rachel), Ashley Glover (David), Brandon Lee (Dezarae), Bryce Lee, Joshua Harrison and Jeremiah Harrison (Candace); 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Linda Brew (Lynn); one brother, Terry Lee (Anita); one sister-in-law, Earline Harrison (Charlie) and one brother-in-law, Willard May.
Mr. Gene Lee is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Carol Lee.
Active pallbearers will be four grandsons, Alexander Lee, David Glover, Ricky Gardner, and Brandon Lee and four nephews, Michael Alexander, Marty Alexander, Ricky Harrison, and James May.
Honorary pallbearers will be three grandsons, Bryce Lee, Joshua Harrison, and Jeremiah Harrison and three nephews, Byron Alexander, Wayne May, and Johnny Jenkins.
Mr. Gene Lee came to trust the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation at age 28. He immediately transformed his life and remained a rock-solid Christian man steadfast in his devotion and love to God all of his life. Nothing was more important to him. He was known for his kindness and hugs for everyone. Not only was he devoted to God and family but he also worked extremely hard doing everything faithfully and to the best of his ability. Among numerous Beulah Church duties (whatever he was asked to do), he served as a deacon for 43 years.
Mr. Gene Lee graduated from Ponta High School in 1953. He was a stellar basketball player who played college basketball at East Mississippi Junior College. Mr. Lee joined the Marines and served 23 years attaining the rank of Master Sargeant and serving throughout the world including two tours of combat duty in Vietnam.
Mr. Lee’s second career was at Ford's Ice Cream in Newton and a third career was as the beloved "Papaw" of Piggly Wiggly of Union finally retiring for good at age 84 years of age.
When asked at 77 years of age, he immediately joined the Gideons of local Newton County Gideon Camp. In lieu of flowers the family asks to honor “Gene” by purchasing Bibles through “In Memory” cards from The Gideons International. Cards can be found in churches and in Milling Funeral Home.
