Funeral services for Curtis Blackburn were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Newton County Funeral Home South Chapel. Rev. William Savell and Rev. James Mitchell officiated. Burial followed in the Conehatta Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home.
Mr. Blackburn, age 85, and a resident of Conehatta, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at his residence. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church. He was a retired builder of 52 years who showed great pride in his work. He was a devoted father and grandfather who spent most of his spare time playing ball with his sons, and when he no longer played, he continued to support all his grandchildren and great grandchildren at sporting events. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Blackburn; his parents, Pat Blackburn and Thelma Blackburn Holladay and three brothers Bobby (Becky), Harold (Janie) and Jimmy Blackburn.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Blackburn and her family; one brother, Larry Blackburn (Jo); his sister-in-law, Carol Blackburn; four sons, Norman, Tim (Felicia), Drew (Kat), Tab (Delaine) and honorable mentions, Ronnie Cook and James Mitchell; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Bruton (Shawn), Kelli Blackburn, Chasity Bounds, Curt Blackburn (Kristin), Lee Blackburn (Abby), Cole Blackburn, Caleb Blackburn (Beth), Kyle Blackburn (Olivia) and Justin Blackburn (Allison); thirteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Phillip Firth, Ronnie Cook, Curt Blackburn, Justin Blackburn, Riley Bruton and Cole Blackburn.
Visitation was Saturday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
