Funeral services for David Edwin “Shorty” Airhart were held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. from Grace United Baptist Church. Bro. Jamie Leach and Bro. Bo Buckley officiated. Burial followed in Grace United Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home.
Mr. Airhart, age 89, and a resident of Decatur, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Ochsner Rush Laird Hospital in Union. He was a native of Texas and had been a resident of this area for over fifty years moving from New Mexico and Texas. He was a retired service man with Ferell Gas Company, formerly Thermo Gas. He was a local business owner of Airhart’s Enterprises. Mr. Airhart was a veteran of the United States Army and a Christian by faith, holding membership with Grace United Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Ruby Grist Airhart; one brother, Jack Airhart and one sister, Ava Parker.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ann Holt Airhart of Decatur, one son, David Airhart (Angie) of Decatur; two daughters, Debby Walker (Johnny) of Hickory and Terry Foley (Ronnie) of Newton; six grandchildren, Trent Airhart (Qyuinna), April Foley, Jonathan Walker (Megan), Joey Walker (Bridget), Ron Foley and Stephanie Hurst (Kenway); eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Arthur Airhart of TX and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Trent Airhart, Ron Foley, Jonathan Walker, Joey Walker, Kenway Hurst, and Talon Hurst.
Visitation was Sunday from 1:30 P.M. until 2:50 P.M. at the church.
Newton County Funeral Home - South served the Airhart family.
