Elder S.B. Towner was born February 14, 1941, in Decatur, Mississippi. He was the son of Willie Towner and Gerdie Lee Huddleston-Towner. After Gerdie passed, S.B. Towner, at the age of 3 years old, was raised and nurtured by bonus mother, Mary Lou Arrington-Towner. Elder Towner went home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2023.
Elder Towner was called to the ministry in 1963 at the age of 22 and was blessed to have had over 60 years of Pastoring, Ministering and Evangelizing. Elder Towner was renowned for his singing and was an original member of Dawns of Faith quartet gospel group of Mississippi.
Elder Towner moved to Flint, MI in 1973, where he continued his ministry at Canaan Baptist Church and in 1983, he founded United Missionary Baptist Temple Mission on 7th Avenue in Flint, MI until he returned to Mississippi where he continued his Pastoral duties. He returned to Flint, MI in 2011.
Elder Towner loved to sing, pray, read, study and share the word of God.
Elder S.B. Towner leaves to cherish his memories, children, Eric (Angel) Towner, Pastor Willie C. (Catherine) Towner, Gail Towner, Samuel Towner, all of Flint, MI, Monica (Michael) Peeler of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother, Costello (Patricia) Towner of Decatur, MS; two sisters, Irene Nichols of Newton, MS and Alma Mosley of Detroit, MI; nine grandchildren, Gary (Rasheeda) Mitchell, Jr., Maurice Mitchell, Raymond (Latoya) Mitchell, Joshua (Kyle) Towner, Jacob (Yolanda) Towner, Jeremiah (Alandra) Towner, Marcus Towner, Jordan Peeler and Jada Peeler; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends including a special nephew, Jesse James Patrick; bonus children, Martha Huddleston, Linda (Rev. Joe) Buckley, Brenda Parks, Bobby Lee Buckley, Annette Buckley and Michael (Marcia) Buckley, a beautiful bouquet of bonus grands and great grands.
Elder S.B. Towner was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Towner, Gerdie Lee Huddleston-Towner, Mary Lou Arrington-Towner; wife, Willie Oda Towner; five brothers, Claver Towner, Albert Towner, Jethro Towner, Leroy Towner, Melvin Towner, Sr.; five sister, Vera Mae Patrick, Aliene Russell, Wilmalene Patrick, Rosemary Towner and Vonnie Lee Holton.
