Funeral services for Eugene Boutwell, Jr., were held Monday, December 16, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. from the Newton County Funeral Home – South Chapel. Burial followed in Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home.
Bro. Joe Garvin officiated. Special music was provided by William Savell.
Mr. Boutwell, age 81, and a lifelong resident of Newton, was born Saturday, October 23, 1943, to his parents, Eugene and Cleo Boutwell. Gene was a graduate of Newton High School and a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and in later years attended Garlandville Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan, and a dedicated Bible reader. He passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Woodland Court Personal Care Home, where he had been a resident for almost two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph M. Boutwell, Amon (Barbara) Reeves, Jr. and his twin, Green (Patsy) Boutwell and one brother-in-law, Kent Palmer.
Survivors include one brother, Ray Boutwell of Newton and one sister, Ann Palmer of Lucas, KS; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were John Wayne Boutwell, Lloyd Dobson, Allen Boutwell, Wendell Boutwell, Raymond Boutwell, and Shannon Doss.
Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Boutwell, Emmett Bankston, and Terry Loper.
Visitation was Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
