Chip Luke passed away peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning, May 12, 2023, at his home with his Soul Mate, Lori Porter. As the middle child of Jim and Emily Luke he had an older brother Dal and younger sister Leslie. Chip graduated from Union High School and was a member of First Methodist Church of Union. He also graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelors Degree in Poultry Science. Chip was always friendly, outgoing and personable, who never shied away from making new friends and enjoyed participating in sports and social activities. Chip was a true Mississippian! During the time that he worked outside of Mississippi he always was happier as he returned home. He would say that he always felt better when he crossed the state line back into Mississippi. His creative ways endeared him to those with whom he shared “Piddle Lig” version of the 3 Little Pigs story. Chip was a lover of music and enjoyed sharing his personal renditions of the George Jones’ song “The One I Loved Back Then” and the David Allen Coe song “You Never Even Called Me By My Name”. He also enjoyed live music events with his favorite being the band, “Widespread Panic” whose shows he attended many times. He enjoyed a large circle of friends and with his easy going and “open arms” style he kept these friendships alive over the years. He held his family close and enjoyed all family events. Chip’s Soul Mate, Lori Porter of Union was his love in life who stood by him and took care of him during his illness. Chip loved all animals. He rescued a baby squirrel, Charlie, feeding it with an eye dropper and raising it. During Chip’s last days he commented that he saved Charlie’s life and now "I think he will outlive mine."
Chip is survived by Lori Porter, partner in life; Jim Luke, father; Emily Luke, mother; Dal Luke, brother, Leslie Baker, Sister; Susan Luke and Johnny Gray, Aunt and Uncle; Luke and Chloe Baker and Danny and Kate Luke, nephews and nieces; and countless friends.
Pallbearers for the service were Rusty McGinty, Bobby Tillman, Louis Gray, Barry Gray, Tyrone Smith, Jim Gray, Gabe Marshall and Dal Luke.
