Joyce Maxine McGrew, 80 of Lake, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Friday, December 31, 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home - South in 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Newton Christian Church.
Burial followed in Pine Ridge Cemetery at Lawrence. Dr. John Cash and Bro. Cade Price officiated.
Joyce was a lifelong resident of Lake, where she graduated high school and raised her family. She was an employee of Bo-Kays and Balloons in Newton for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of Newton Christian Church, where she served her church family faithfully. Joyce loved her family very much, was an excellent seamstress, and skilled in various crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McGrew; father, Lloyd Percy Gibbs; mother, Mary Jane Thompson Gibbs; daughters, Valerie McMullan and Cindy Fendley; brothers, Dudley Gibbs, Percy Lee Gibbs, Jack Evans and John Evans; sister, Infant Mary Janette Gibbs; step-brothers, William "Son" Gibbs and Billy Claude "Buddy" Gibbs; and step-sisters, Nell Walker, Jean Culpepper and Ann "Sis" Thompson.
Survivors include her son, Steve McGrew (Tina) of Meridian; daughter, Wendy Bailey (Randy) of Lake; sister, Cora Mae Cleveland (David) of Hickory; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Clint McMullan, Brandon McMullan, Ryan Wilson, Michael Wilson, Jamie McGrew, Austin Tillman, Shane Naquin, Zach Emmons, Justice Smith, and Damion Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles McMullan, Eric Shorter, Kaden Atwood, Noah Wilson, Kyler Tillman, and Odin Chisolm.
