A Celebration of Life Service for Judson Gary Bounds was held on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Newton. Dr. James Spencer and Rev. Hal Bates officiated.
Special music was provided by Mr. Ian Richardson, Music Director for Congregational Singing; Miss Dianne Nelson and Mr. Jeff Hardy, Instrumentalists; and Ms. Heather Odom, soloist.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Poplar Springs Cemetery. Dr. James Spencer officiated.
Mr. Bounds, age 44, and a resident of Newton, was an engineering technician for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He died Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
A lifelong native of Newton, Bounds was devoted to his family and church. He studied electrical engineering at East Central Community College and Mississippi State University. It was during this time he met his wife, Jean Claire Monroe of Purvis.
Bounds was most proud of being the father of his son Liam. He enjoyed all avenues of agriculture, was an ordained deacon, and an advocate and minister to others battling cancer.
Survivors include his wife of 5 1/2 years, Jean Claire Bounds; one son, Liam Bounds (4); his parents, James and Glenda Bounds, all of Newton; his sister, Holly Bounds of Edmond, Okla.; and his sister and brother-in-law Dawn (Bob) Millington of Camas, Wash.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents James and Geraldine Bounds of Meridian and his maternal grandparents, Rufus and Sadie Gary of Newton.
Pallbearers were Thomas Monroe, Bob Millington, Justin Gressett, Jason Williams, Tyler Thomas and T-Bo Clanton.
Visitation was held two hours prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
Newton County Funeral Home – South Chapel, 100 Old Hwy. 15 Loop, Newton, served the Bounds family.
