Nancy Sneed Bounds, age 79, of Newton, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Mississippi Care Center of Raleigh in Raleigh, Mississippi. Born on April 28, 1945, in Oxford, Mississippi, Nancy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was a member of Newton Methodist Church and also attended Antioch Christian Church in Hickory, MS for many years. The Sneed family moved to the Newton area when Nancy was in the 3rd grade. She graduated from Newton High School. During her time in school, was selected as the first Jr. Sportsman Queen for Newton County. She went on to earn a degree from East Central Community College.
Nancy worked for Newton County Bank until her children were born, after which she dedicated her time to her family. She also helped to run a family business across the state during this time. Later, she worked for the State of Mississippi in the Highway Department and as a Child Support Enforcement Officer with DHS.
Nancy was known for her creativity, spending many years making cakes and candies for special events. After retirement, she enjoyed baking, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Eugene Sneed; mother, Nancy Marie Norris Sneed; and brother, Phil Sneed.
She is survived by her son, Rob Bounds (Heather) of Dallas, GA; daughter, Dawn Bounds Sibley (Jeff) of Newton, MS; grandchildren, Joseph Sibley of Newton, MS, Dalton Sibley (Paxton) of Newton, MS, and Kintzing Bounds of Dallas, GA; great-grandchild, Levi Sibley of Newton, MS; nephew, Kyle Hardy (Taylor) of Pittsburg, PA; nieces, Kelli Hardy Phelps (Dudley) of Starkville, MS, and Kathryn Hardy Nance (Kenny) of Madison, MS; brother, Gene Sneed (Don) of Covington, TN; sister, Claire Sneed Hardy (Larry) of Oxford, MS; and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Newton County Funeral Home - South, located at 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, MS and on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Newton Methodist Church located at 600 Decatur Street, Newton, MS. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. with Dr. John Cash officiating. The burial followed in Newton County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Joseph Sibley, Dalton Sibley, Al Fenger, Dudley Phelps, Scott Sibley, and Bill Freeman.
