A celebration of life for Prentiss Lee Savell began at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from the Calvary Way Full Gospel Church.
Mr. Savell, age 87, and a resident of Pensacola, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023. He was born in the Cross Roads Community of Neshoba County, Mississippi on Friday, September 18, 1936, to his parents, Alvin Lee and Martha Priscilla Winstead Savell at the family home.
Attending school locally, Prentiss began school at County Line and was a 1955 graduate of Union High School. Professionally, Prentiss, had careers in customer service, plumbing, electrical and retired as a mechanical engineer, being employed with G.C. Murphy’s. Mitchell Motors, Westinghouse and Cummings Diesel.
He was a Christian by testimony of his faith, and an active member of Calvary Way Full Gospel Church in Pensacola and a vital part of The Redeemed Family Singers, as their bass singer.
From a personal perspective, Prentiss will be remembered for his passion for telling jokes, singing as often as he could, no matter where he was…..whether it was in a group or just by himself, doing his best at putting a smile on everyone’s face that he could, giving genuine heartfelt hugs that would make the difference no matter what you were going through or maybe just to brighten your day. He also had a passion for reading his Bible, which he read from cover to cover on several occasions. Christian fellowship was also a highlight of his life that he always looked forward to.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.L. and Zilla Savell of Union; four sisters, Janett Ridout (Fred) of Meridian, Violet Sunshine Pierce (Buford) of Union, Polly Smith Nations (John), and Patricia Thorne (Ernest), both of Pensacola; three brothers, Darwell (Mildred) Savell, Didymus (Winnie) Savell, and Wayne (Bonnie) Savell, all of Union; one brother-in-law, Bill Doser of Portland, OR; one sister-in-law, Evelyn (Dee) Elders of Opp, AL and four brothers-in-law, Junior Crabtree, Dewey (Cleo) Crabtree, and Thomas Crabtree, better known as “Pal”, all of Alabama and Harvey Jackson of Pensacola.
Survivors include his longtime wonderful bride of 65 years, Mrs. Thelma Crabtree Savell; three sons, Anthony (Melissa) Savell, Kenneth Savell, and Prentiss Ashley (Melissa aka “Moe”) Savell, all residing in the Pensacola and Milton area; three grandchildren, Anthony Thomas Lee, Jacob (Taylor) Taylor and Samantha Taylor and two great-grandchildren, Levi Taylor and Kennedy Paige Taylor, all of Pensacola; one sister, Frances Doser Saxton of Portland, OR; two sisters-in-law, Velma Moore (Mac) of Elba, AL and Edna Jackson of Pensacola; a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great nephews and their families survive.
He is also survived by longtime friends and members of the Calvary Way Full Gospel Church in Pensacola, which to him was just extended family members.
Visitation was one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of floral offerings, although accepted, memorial donations be made to the Watoto Children's Choir in his name. Prentiss fell in love with these kids from Uganda and South Africa when they performed at Calvary Way.
