Funeral Services for Roosevelt Leonard Wheaton were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Third New Hope District Building in Newton, MS, with Pastor Shawn Croft officiating.
Roosevelt Leonard Wheaton was born July 7, 1966, in Laurel, Mississippi. He was the son of the late Joe Andrew Wheaton and Vertis Marie Wheaton. He departed this life on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Forest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his son, Justin Leonard Wheaton and three brothers, Larry Joe, Otho and Jerry Wayne.
At an early age, he joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Newton High School in 1985. He worked at ESCO for 37 years and he ws the best mechanic in Newton.
He was married to Sherrie Wheaton; to this union, three children were born.
He leaves to cherish his memories, three children, Vincent, Mesha and Tywon (Texas); seven grandchildren, Damareon, Jakari, Braylon, Amari, Ry’leigh, A’nylah, all of Gulfport, Mississippi and Marley of Newton, Mississippi; three brothers, Rex, Randy and Terone; two sisters, Vanessa and Emily (Bruce) Turner of Gulfport, Mississippi; one aunt, Betsy-Pearl (James) Smith of Illinois; mother-in-law, Ellisitene Johnson; two brothers-in-law, James Johnson and Daniel Johnson; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Cherry (Luster), Antionae Wheaton and Marion Wheaton; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and relatives.
