JACKSON, MS - Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Conservation Officers will take part in Operation Dry Water during the upcoming holiday weekend.
Operation Dry Water is a nationwide campaign aimed at reducing alcohol- and drug-related boating accidents and fatalities. The initiative focuses on increasing public awareness about the dangers of boating under the influence and enhancing law enforcement visibility to deter impaired operation on the water.
As part of the campaign, MDWFP will strengthen its enforcement efforts across the state by patrolling Mississippi's waterways. These officers will be on high alert for signs of impaired operation and unsafe boating practices to ensure a safe experience for everyone on the water.
Boating under the influence is not only illegal but also significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death. Alcohol impairs judgment, coordination, and reaction time all of which are critical factors when operating a vessel. MDWFP urges boaters to designate a sober operator and for everyone to always wear a life jacket, follow navigational rules, and remain alert while on the water.
