Our Opinion: Congrats Andy!

Andy Ogletree’s name is forever going to be linked with guys by the name of Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Hogan and Tiger Woods after Ogletree won the U.S. Amateur Sunday in Pinehurst, N.C.

The golf career Little Rock native and Union High School graduate will not be the same after his win on Sunday. He will have an opportunity to play in The Masters (alongside Woods for the first two rounds no less), The U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, and The Open Championship at Royal St. Georges next year. He also joins the Walker Cup team, the amateur version of the Ryder Cup.

In some ways, the U.S. Amateur is even more of an exclusive group than some of the other majors. It is one of the most grueling competitions that combines both stroke play and match play. The final round even stays true to the traditions of golf with 36 holes being played on Sunday instead of the more common modern 18-hole final round.

It’s one of the biggest honors, and it could help jumpstart his professional career once he finishes his senior year at Georgia Tech.

Congratulations Andy! You showed us a great less in hard work, mental toughness and preparation.
