Last week, voters went to the polls and elected new leadership in many different positions in our state and local governments.
Statewide, Tate Reeves will be our new governor. Delbert Hosemann will be our new lieutenant governor.
Two of our three representatives will be new faces to Jackson. Tyler McCaughn will take over for longtime Sen. Terry Burton in District 31. He defeated Mike Marlow.
Troy Smith will represent the southern portion of Newton County as part of House District 84. He defeated independent Roy May last week and incumbent William Shirley during the primaries.
Randy Rushing will once again represent House District 78, after he defeated Joe Bradford of Scott County.
May Bender will serve once again as Tax Assessor/Collector after defeating Daniel “Peanut” Savell.
Charles Moulds joins fellow returning Supervisors Joe Alexander, Kenneth Harris and Charles Godwin after Moulds defeated Constitution Party candidate Bryan Withers.
Jacky Johnson defeated Carroll Johnson and Charles Scoggin for the Beat 5 Supervisor position.
Justin K. Chaney will be the new Justice Court Judge in District 2.
And we also want to salute all the other candidates that were re-elected without an opponent.
Now, it is time to come together and put our support behind our leaders. They will be representing our area, and they need our thoughts, prayers, support, encouragement and input on key issues for our state and county.
