Our Opinion: Thank you for all the local events

If you’re not in the Christmas spirit by the time Sunday rolls around, it’s your own fault.

This week, there are numerous ways you can get in the Christmas spirit all over Newton County. If you missed the Christmas tree lighting in Newton on Tuesday, you can still catch the Newton Christmas parade on Thursday.

Decatur hosts its annual parade Friday, followed by the annual ECCC Warrior Wonderland. You can get a selfie with the big guy if you hang around in Decatur.

Saturday is a full day of holiday cheer, as Newton Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Whistlestop Marketplace. Then, Hickory hosts its parade at 2 p.m. followed at 6 p.m. by Union’s Christmas Parade. Santa will be available after Union’s parade for photos.

Later that night, A Christmas Canon will be performed at the Roxy Theatre. If you miss that performance, you can see it again at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Then, Newton United Methodist Church hosts their annual Drive Through Live Nativity.

Wow, what a week we have in front of us! And that doesn’t even include all the Christmas programs and cantatas put on by the schools and churches in our area.

It’s awesome that a county our size can have so many different Christmas events, and that takes a lot of dedicated people who put on these events. We’d like to say thank you to everyone involved with each of these events. You don’t realize how much of an impact you’re making in our county. We would like to say thank you. There’s no present we can give that will say thank you enough.
