Easter is supposed to be a day of celebration and families coming together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
This year, however, families and friends had to stay socially distant due to the coronavirus. And we Mississippians also had to endure prime conditions for severe weather.
In Newton County, thankfully, we were spared the worst of the damage. Our friends in Southern Mississippi are recovering after two major tornadoes touched down. They will be picking up the pieces from that storm for months to come.
Here in our county, we still had a good bit of damage. There were trees down everywhere. Numerous roads were closed. Some houses were damaged. While many of us were sleeping, first responders and other volunteers worked to clear trees from roadways. Others were helping their friends and neighbors clean up after the mess. Linemen were restoring power.
Thank you to all of those who worked through the night to make keep our county running.
