Dear Editor,
While sheltering in place at home I have been reflecting on what our elected officials are doing during this current pandemic. There are three obvious important issues I've come to recognize regarding this coronavirus that is running viciously rampant, not only in this country, but also throughout our world.
1. It's an undeniable forgone conclusion that this killer virus originated in the laboratories of Wuhan, China. Our country, along with the rest of the world, must relentlessly leave no stone unturned in pursuing what China's intentions were (malicious or otherwise). While keeping in mind that China is an authoritative country, surely, any information of any kind coming from China will be dearth and measured. Clearly, our government officials must take off their gloves, and handle China with roughshod persistence. So far, U.S. officials have 42,000 reasons for motivation. Furthermore, our officials would be wise to exercise unprecedented transparency. We need answers. This is not a time for polite politics in diplomacy.
2. Typically, as in any crisis, the hardest hit are people of color and the poor. You would think, with the passing of time that our government elected officials would use their experiences of hindsight for use of foresight in any sort of crisis. For instance, albeit, pandemics of any nature may occur once in a generation, there still should've been a framework of automatic triggers instituted to protect the poor and people of color. Anything less is unacceptable, and a dereliction of profound responsibility by our government. As of this date, this dereliction cannot be quantified, but a high percentage of the 42,000 lives is a good starting point so far.
3. Simply stated, the lack of readiness and unreliability of the United States government has been exposed in a multitude of ways. Please clean up your act! We deserve better!
