There was a renewed sense of energy at the Union Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday, July 8, as new leadership and longtime members came together with a shared purpose—to improve and uplift the town of Union.
Chamber President Neal McCarty and Vice President Lauren Bennett led the meeting and welcomed special guests from the Union Garden Club. The agenda centered around community involvement and city beautification, with several key initiatives discussed.
One collaborative project in the works is an effort to enhance one of the town’s entrances through a partnership with Wildflower Trails of Mississippi, a program of the nonprofit Keep Mississippi Beautiful, which will help sow native wildflowers next spring.
Volunteers and donations are still needed for this weekend’s “Sweeping Through Union” park cleanup event. Community members are encouraged to sign up and contribute toward the cost of supplies.
The meeting’s main focus was the upcoming “Country Day” celebration on September 13. While evening entertainment is still being finalized, many community favorites will return, including the Pride of Union Band, the car parade, local performances, and the long-anticipated return of the Mule Pull—a nostalgic favorite from years past. Applications are still open for food and booth vendors as well as local entertainers.
The Chamber also discussed upcoming grant opportunities, celebrated the grand opening of Ace Hardware, and proposed hosting another community “meet and greet” in the near future.
