Hello, my name is Sammy R. Stevens and I am the Republican candidate for Newton County Sheriff. I am a graduate of Union High School. I have some college education, and I am a graduate of the MS Law Enforcement Training Academy in Pearl, MS.
I have been in law enforcement for 27 years. I have experience as a patrol officer with the Union Police Department. I have been a school resource officer. I am presently an active member of the Newton County Sheriff Department. I have experience as an investigator, K-9 officer, and for the past two years, chief deputy.
I am running for sheriff of Newton County because I believe how you treat people matters. Whether you are a citizen, an offender or the hard-working men and women of law enforcement, you are expected to be treated with respect. We all remember a time when we made a mistake. We also remember those who held us accountable and showed compassion. I believe in being firm and fair, while demonstrating common decency and humanity. Newton County rooted, I have committed my life to protecting and serving our county.
Why am I a good candidate? I believe with my experience, I can give Newton County leadership that understands the importance of professionalism, transparency, integrity, and fairness to all citizens whom we serve. Through the years, I have built trustworthy relationships and partnerships with our community. The people of Newton County know me and have experienced first-hand of my commitment to my community.
